The Measurement of Intra-abdominal Pressure in Awake Rat Cystometry
نویسنده
چکیده
The history of animal cystometry revolves around the desire for specification of the lower urinary tract functions as a dynamic reservoir. However, in animal models, the functional significance of intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) in urodynamics have not been well-studied. The measurement of IAP and its interpretation are essential for evaluating the bladder functions. In addition, the IAP is a key physiological parameter in an animal experimental model of voiding dysfunction. In this issue of International Neurourology Journal, Lee and Yoon [1] provides an overview of the significance of the IAP in an awake-animal cystometry. There are two key roles of the IAP in an awake-animal cystometry model as shown below:

The Role of Intra-abdominal Pressure Measurement in Awake Rat Cystometry
Rat cystometry is increasingly being used in research on overactive bladder and is a research tool for investigating bladder functions during the storage and voiding phases. Measurement of the pressure in the bladder is an essential part of cystometry, although that pressure is the sum of both detrusor and intra-abdominal pressures. In anesthetic cystometry, measurement of the intra-abdominal p...

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to apply a new surgical procedure that allows for the successful monitoring of intraurethral pressure (IUP) changes in the cystometry of awake Sprague-Dawley rats. METHODS Twenty-six female Sprague-Dawley rats were grouped according to the catheterization method (bladder only; bladder and urethra; or bladder, urethra, and abdomen). Using an arbitrarily determ...
متن کاملComparison of Intra-abdominal Pressure Measurement and Physical Exam for Diagnosis of Surgery Indication in Patients with Abdominal Compartment Syndrome due to Blunt Trauma
Background & Aims: Increase in abdominal pressure can lead to the so-called intra–abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) that is often observed during the first 24 hours after sever abdominal trauma and surgery. Measurement of the intra abdominal pressure through the bladder as a non-invasive measurement can provide a quick and accurate assessment of abdominal pressure changes. This study was per...

Introduction: Changing position is one of the typical nursing care in intensive care units. This study aimed to investigate the effect of body positioning on intra-abdominal pressure and endotracheal tube cuff pressure and their relationship with each other in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation Materials and Methods: This was a before-after clinical trial study performed on 70 patients ...

Introduction: Despite the impact of increased abdominal hypertension on organ dysfunction and ‎increased mortality, data on the frequency and its related risk factors in critical care unit does not ‎seem enough. While studies have shown that patients’ intra-abdominal pressure measured at ‎admission to intensive care unit can serve as an independent prognostic factor for mortal...
